Trying to decide what to cook for dinner is so hard. Add in dietary requirements, and you can feel even more limited, especially when it knocks out so many ingredients you would have once used. At Jomeis Fine Foods, we don't believe that your dietary needs or requirements should impact how much you can eat or your love of food. Which is why we're always here to help. And today, we're here with our honey ginger chicken recipe, which will be a favourite in your home before long.

Why is chicken great for your diet?

If your diet allows it, we can't recommend having it enough. Even one to two servings of chicken a week can have incredible health benefits, including providing you with protein and essential amino acids. It's fantastic for weight loss, muscle building and decreasing your disease risk.

Before you ask. No. This does not include if it's heavily deep-fried! While it may still provide some of these amazing benefits, cooking it this way can negate many of them. It can also add many negatives to your gut, including fats, oils and high salt content.

Try instead, when cooking your chicken, to bake, sear or broil it. Also, be mindful of which items you pair it with, as marinades and spices can make all the difference.

Why is ginger the perfect complement to chicken?

It's no secret that chicken has a naturally bland flavour. It's really up to what you pair with it. That's why so many people enjoy it battered and fried. But, if you marinade it with the right ingredients, like ginger, you can create a flavour sensation that truly makes your taste buds dance.

Ginger not only adds a warm and spicy taste to your chicken, but it can also make your meat more succulent! That's right! A compound called zingibain found in chicken is a natural meat tenderiser. So, say goodbye to the meat mallet.

As for health benefits, ginger is amazing for the gut. It's known to help digestion and reduce stomach aches and nausea. If you're accompanying your chicken with a heavy ingredient, such as rice or potatoes, this can help you digest them quicker to avoid bloating and stomach pain.

Don't eat chicken?

That's okay! You can still enjoy this recipe! Sub out chicken for Tofu or even pre-boiled potatoes for something sweetly spicy that adds some variety to your meal plan.

You can also just make the marinade as a sauce for your next salad, which is delicious when you're looking for something zingy for your next meal.
