The maca plant, known scientifically as Lepidium Metenii, is sometimes referred to as Peruvian Ginseng. But, no matter what name you know it by, this plant is incredible for the mind, body and soul. It is a must-add to your diet if you're looking to live longer, stronger, happier and healthier.

If you're wondering how one plant can do so much, it's simple. Maca is an adaptogenic plant, meaning it gives the body the nutrients and supports it needs to resist what is going on around it. Some internal and external forces it can assist with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Sex and reproductive issues
  • Sex drive
  • Sperm count
  • Fertility
  • Easing menopausal symptoms

On top of these incredible benefits, maca also boasts nutritional properties, meaning it's fantastic to add to any diet. It packs high levels of iron and iodine, which promote healthy cells and optimise metabolism. For those seeking assistance with digestion, maca also contains a big dose of potassium. Potassium can regulate heartbeat and support nerve and muscle function. It doesn't end there. Maca is also renowned for its rich calcium, amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

So, you see, this plant not only helps us throughout our personal life. It can also be used as a supplement to aid sports' energy and performance. In fact, many bodybuilders and athletes already use maca root to help them perform naturally better, especially during competitive seasons.

If you're not an athlete, that doesn't matter. Eating maca can still help you plenty. Recent studies have shown that consuming maca can help lower blood pressure, something many people consuming a western diet often struggle with. Some studies have even indicated that maca may help protect the skin from the sun's UV rays, support the body's ability to fight free radicals and improve memory. Now that is an incredible root.

If you're ready to give maca a go, there are plenty of ways you can prepare it. Maca has a light, nutty flavour, meaning it mixes well in sweets, including smoothies, muffins, protein balls or over cereal.
