Why is detoxing so important?

There are many toxins that can easily enter our bodies in our day-to-day lives. Unfortunately, many of them are unavoidable.

For example, the pollution we breathe in the air can add toxins to our lungs. The plastic we touch can be a gateway for microplastics to enter our bloodstream. The food we eat, when packed with preservatives, can toxify our guts. Even certain water, filled with heavy metals, can harm the body.

We don't mean to scare you, but it is the truth. That's why it's critical you detox and cleanse your body.

Detoxing lets you clean out those harmful chemicals, pollutants and toxins that can otherwise linger and cause long-term harm. It's a great way to almost 'reset' your body and allow it to heal itself.

Why is beetroot so good for detoxing?

Beetroot is one of those superfoods that can make a remarkable difference for the body, and we don't consume it enough!

It is incredibly rich in betalains, which can neutralise free radicals, protect liver cells and reduce inflammation. It also helps the body better process fats, stopping them from impacting the liver (which can cause diseases).

On top of this, the nitrates in beetroot can widen blood vessels and increase blood flow, all of which deliver more oxygen and nutrients around the body. Some recent studies also suggest that beetroot can enhance bile production, making it fantastic for fat digestion and toxin elimination from the body.

The Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons of Jomeis Fine Foods Beetroot Latte
  • 200g of canned lentils
  • 200g of canned chickpeas
  • 1 tablespoon of gluten-free flour of your choosing
  • Spices to taste, including cumin, paprika, Turmeric Latte, Spicy Ginger Latte, garlic, onion powder, salt and pepper.
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Red onion (cooked or uncooked)
  • Avocado
  • Dairy-free cheese
  • A gluten-free bun of your choosing

The Method

  1. Place your Beetroot Latte powder and chickpeas in a blender and pulse to combine. It should form a paste. Add water as required to form a paste.
  2. Add the flour, spices, salt, pepper, and oil to the beetroot paste. The paste should be sticky, but mouldable.
  3. Form the paste into six round patties.
  4. Place your patties in the freezer for 30 minutes. This helps to bind them together for cooking.
  5. While they're in the freezer, preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  6. When your patties feel more solid, place them on a lined baking paper, spray with some oil and bake for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Once ready, add your patty to your bun and top with the vegetables and cheese.
  8. Enjoy!
